Roots and River artistic director and workshop facilitator, Azure D. Osborne-Lee, developed a model of facilitating the creation of new written work called the Voicebox Writing Workshop. The inaugural Voicebox Writing Workshop series were held at Central School of Speech & Drama and then, in conjunction with New Shoes Theatre, at Morpeth Arms in London.
Here’s what some of the participants have said about the Voicebox Writing Workshops:
”Voicebox Playwriting Workshop offered a long awaited starting point, which cut right to the heart of what was important. The experience of hearing my play professionally performed helped to identify my voice. Azure’s approach to structure was second to none and has given me the push to expand my short play to a longer piece.” -Eden A.
“Thank you so much for running the workshops, I feel much more confident in my writing abilities and the chance to try new stuff out and learn techniques for generating new material have been invaluable.” – Sarah G.
“Writing workshop was one of the most positive things about my year… It’s been very supportive and I’m very grateful to Azure for organizing.” -Lisa T.
“I was hoping to kickstart my writing, which had been blocked. This [workshop] was an extremely successful venture for me.” -Will G.
